Are Nest Thermostat worth it?

Updated: Aug 18, 2021

As technology has evolved, so has the way we use it. Whilst some may say that we have become dependent and lazy, many would argue that we have become more resourceful and efficient. After all we are making things that work smarter, instead of harder. A prime example of working smarter is the Nest thermostat.

Now in its 3rd generation, this adaptive thermostat has saved over 8 billion kwh of energy world wide since it's original release in 2011 has bought energy control to the forefront of the smart home ideal.

So how does it work?

The thermostats adaptive technology means it learns your habits, and acclimatises to them. This means you don't have to worry about changing the temperature after the initial learning period. Nest learns by keeping a record of the times you adjust the temperature and the temperature you set. It then starts making these changes automatically, preventing you from using more energy than you need to by forgetting to adjust the temperature before you leave the house or go to bed. After all your thermostat is responsible for up to 60% of your energy bill, so why not save when you can.

Connectivity.

The Nest also comes with an app that is available on both Android and IOS, this allows you to control the thermostat from your phone, gone are the days of panicking that you have left the heating on and needlessly increasing your bill. Nest offers great inter-connectivity amongst their products, that has customer experience at heart.

A great example of this is the Nest protect, if the Protect detects Carbon Monoxide it will communicate with the nest thermostat which will automatically turn of the heating, a common source of leaks, the nest thermostat will also notify you via the app that this has occurred. (This feature is exclusive to the 3rd generation thermostat)

The nest also works with other smart home products from other manufacturers, such as smart bulbs, whilst you're away the nest can turn the lights on and off to give the impression that you are at home. Just another way in which Nest can ease your peace of mind.
